Rescuing The Rescuer: The Restoration of the Eagle Harbor Type-H Surfboat
July 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Adventures In History
George Powell, Powell & Crisp Planksters
Acquired by the Historical Society in 2001, the surfboat is now the centerpiece of the KCHS Lifesaving Museum. While repairs were made prior to our ownership and during the years 2008-2013, it was in 2017 when George Powell and the crew at Powell and Crisp Planksters performed major restorations to make the surfboat safe to sail. This illustrated talk will walk you through the challenges faced during the discovery phase, the reconstruction of prior modifications, structural restoration of the hull and deck, and finally the dressing up with paint and hardware. Join George Powell as he explains the process of restoring the surfboat to fighting trim.
